SYLVIA kicks off my year of residence at Tacoma Little Theatre

SYLVIA by A.R. Gurney opens tonight at Tacoma Little Theatre and kicks off my year as Resident lighting designer.

Sylvia is a fun show helmed by Elliot Weiner (directed me in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde last year) with a strong cast.

As for the now official resident lighting gig, which I've known about for a while but been really good about not announcing to the world until it was all official on paper, it is a huge boost to my design career and an exciting step for TLT as they move on into the future.  TLT has not had a resident designer in recent memory and I'm really looking forward to being the guinea pig for this new position.  I've enjoyed working on Sylvia and am already on my way to a plot for Nightwatch (the second show of the season.)

The craziest part of this new job is that together with the two shows I have already committed to at Lakewood Playhouse I suddenly have 10, yes you read that correctly TEN, lighting gigs for the 2012-2013 season.  Let's just say I will be going through a lot of pencils and graph paper over the next 12 months.

As for my availability for acting, the one downside of so much design work is that I will not have the same open availability to book acting gigs that I normally like around this time of year.  I've been weighing my options between maybe taking some smaller parts, to getting back to film work (something I've been wanting to do anyway), to just saying what the hell and double booking wherever possible, to trying to stay sane and maybe focusing on lighting... as if that'll happen.  Point is, it'll be a full year one way or another, how full remains to be seen.
