If I had to pick my five favorite musicals, only two of them are featured in this show. I think that says something about the strength and diversity of the musical theater today. In the past five years the Tony award for best score has gone to two rock scores, a hip-hop score, a score featuring songs entirely in Italian, and a score which sounds like it came right out of the 1920’s. The sounds of Broadway have come a long way from being dominated by Rogers and Hammerstein, and yet we still see revivals of all those great old musicals every year. What we have tried to give you tonight is that same broad scope of the American musical. Like a good Broadway season we look to give you something old, something you remember, something you love, something you’ve never heard before, something new, and finally something you will remember long after the lights go out this evening. Thank you for coming, I hope you enjoy the show.
